LaLiga boss: Why Messi's return to Barca is complicated

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has explained why it won't be easy for FC Barcelona to re-sign superstar Lionel Messi next season.

The Argentine attacker's contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season and could make a return to the Camp Nou on a free transfer.

There have been reports claiming that PSG are not keen on meeting Messi's wage demands on the new deal, which has fueled rumours of a departure in June.

However, it seems a deal for Messi won't be as straight forward with the Catalan giants still struggling with their finances.

"At this time, it looks complicated to me. There is still time, but there will have to be a departure of players and a reduction in the wage bill," Tebas told RMC Sport.

"They will have to be to be able to register Messi. And then there is a piece of information that we don't know, which is Messi's salary. There are still many variables."

"Barca is not like PSG, which has a gas and money tap which allows them to have such a big salary.

"You must reduce the wage bill to be able to sign players. It's like the subway, let them out so they can get in. And people still have to get out of the subway."
