Real Madrid got their LaLiga campaign back on track with a 2-1 victory over Cadiz in their final clash before the FIFA World Cup.
There were no wholesale changes from Real following Monday's loss at Rayo Vallecano, as Lucas Vazquez came in for Dani Carvajal and Marco Asensio made way for Toni Kroos.
A positive opening from Real followed where Luka Modric entered in space on the edge of the area on the back of a smart possession play and fired wide of target.
Los Blancos made further in-roads thereafter around the visitors area and a teasing ball by Federico Valverde found Kroos, who volleyed well wide.
The European champions eventually made their dominant spell count five minutes to the break when Eder Miltao headed in a floating cross by Kroos.
Cadiz provided a lively approach to the second half and a flick on by Anthony Lozano to Ruben Sobrino send the latter through to goal only for Thibaut Courtois to come out and parry.
Los Blancos reclaimed advantage midway through the second half and saw Rodrygo smash a cutback from the right-side of the area by Vazquez well wide.
Madrid bagged the second goal in the last 20 minutes after Kroos drilled home a loose ball from a corner-kick through a crowd of bodies and into the back of the net.
Los Blancos should've found a third with minutes to go as Vinicius Junior raced down the left and cutback for Modric to tap in an empty net, but the veteran missed.
A nervous final eight minutes followed as Cadiz pulled one back courtesy of Lucas Perez following poor defensive play by the host, who removed Modric to bring Eduardo Camavinga.
Chances followed at either end in the closing seconds with Alex guiding a looping header over target before Valevder slammed a loose ball at the other end wide, as Carlo Ancelotti's charges held on for maximum points.
