Barcelona avoid third straight LaLiga defeat

Barcelona 3-0 Mallorca

Champions FC Barcelona avoided their third successive loss after a resounding 3-0 win over ten-man Mallorca in their penultimate game of the season on Sunday evening at Spotify Camp Nou.

Barca made five changes from their defeat against Real Valladolid, as Anssumane Fati, Ousmane Dembele, Jules Kounde, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba were recalled.

Xavi's charges went ahead within the first minute after Fati had an easy tap-in from a square pass by Gavi, following a quick attack.

Mallorca were down to ten men as early as the 14th minute after Amath Ndiaye's yellow card was upgraded to red from a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review for a high boot tackle on Alejandro Balde.

Fati eventually doubled Blaugrana's lead and got his brace on 24 with a strike at the near post after a flick-on by Robert Lewandowski.

Dembele thought he had made it 3-0 early in the second stanza with a goal-bound header that was cleared off the line by Martin Valjent.

Lewandowski was also denied by the woodwork on 66 minutes before Gavi eventually put the hosts out of sight four minutes later with a left-footed shot into the top corner.

Barcelona will be away to Celta Vigo in their final game while Malorca will be at home against Rayo Vallecano, next Sunday.

Sevilla 1-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid remained in control of finishing second on the table after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Sevilla in their second-last game on Saturday evening at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Los Blancos made five alterations from their win over Rayo Vallecano, as Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Aurelien Tchouameni were brought in.

Sevilla went ahead three minutes from the off after Rafa Mir capitalised on a rebound in the box with a strike past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

However, Rodrygo snatched the equaliser for Carlo Ancelotti's charges on the half-hour mark with a well executed free-kick that wrong-footed goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Erik Lamela nearly restored the lead for Sevilla nine minutes before the interval with a strike that beat Courtois but came off the post.

Rodrygo put Madrid ahead 21 minutes before time and grabbed his brace with a sliding shot from a solo-run in the box.

Sevilla finished the last seven minutes playing with ten-man after Marcos Acuna was red-carded for a reckless challenge on Ceballos.

Los Blancos will end their season next Sunday at home against Athletic Bilbao while Sevilla will be away to Real Sociedad on the same day.

Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Sociedad

Atletico Madrid kept their hopes of finishing second alive after edging Real Sociedad 2-1 in their penultimate match on Sunday evening at Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico made only one change to the side that was held to a 3-3 draw by Espanyol, as Sergio Reguilon took the place of Angel Correa, with Antoine Griezmann leading the line alongside Yannick Carrasco.

Griezmann broke the deadlock for Diego Simeone's men eight minutes before the break with a strike in the box after he was teed up by Rodrigo de Paul.

Griezmann turned to be the provider of the second goal for the hosts on 73 minutes after Nahuel Molino latched onto his pass and fired a shot into the top corner.

Alexander Sørloth pulled a goal back for Sociedad two minutes before time with a shot in the box from a through ball by Brais Méndez.

In the final matchday next Sunday, Atletico will be away to Villarreal while Real Sociedad will host Sevilla.
