Subsequent reports from the Daily Mail claim that this amount could rise to a figure as high as €1.2 million (R24 million), while further disciplinary steps could also be taken.
There is no indication that club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is considering punishing the six-time Ballon d'Or winner at this stage, but the situation may escalate if the issues surrounding the player's future are not resolved in the coming days.
