Lionel Messi to leave FC Barcelona for free with exit clause set to be activated

Messi, 33, informed the Spanish giants of his desire to end his 19-year association and will activate a clause to unilaterally end his contract in the current transfer window.

The Barcelona captain is said to have informed the club he wanted an 'immediate' exit in the aftermath of the 8-2 mauling at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
