Lionel Messi's father comments on FC Barcelona future amid Manchester City links

Lionel Messi's agent has broken silence on his future amid speculation the FC Barcelona captain has agreed terms with Manchester City.

Messi, 33, is currently in a standoff with the Spanish giants after sending the club a burofax to express his desire to leave on a free transfer.

The club-record goalscorer has now skipped training for two consecutive days after Blaugrana insisted he would not be allowed to leave with his €700-million release clause still active.

As a result, Jorge Messi, the father and agent of the record six-time Ballon d'Or winner flew into Barcelona to hold crunch talks with president Josep Bartomeu and before entering the club's headquarters he admitted his son is likely to leave.

While he first claimed 'he doesn't know anything' he admitted to Cuatro television cameras that 'it's difficult that he will stay at Barca'.

It's been suggested that Jorge's visit is due to fight the clause to allow Messi to depart was activated during the 2019/20 season despite passing the original date it needed to be activated - due to the coronavirus enforced extension campaign.

With reports suggesting that he's already agreed a three-year contract with Manchester City due to his admiration and desire to reunite with Pep Guardiola, Jorge opted to remain diplomatic in his response.

"No, I didn't talk to Pep (Guardiola)," the 62-year-old said just a day after Mundo Deportivo claimed Guardiola feels the transfer without Messi being available for free would be unfeasible for the Citizens.
