OFFICIAL: LaLiga punish Valencia over Vini racism

LaLiga have now officially taken action against Valencia after Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior was racially abused on Sunday, and have also rescinded the Brazilian's red card.

The winger was once again subjected to racist chants at the Mestalla on Sunday as Real Madrid suffered a 1-0 defeat to Los Che.

However, the result has since been overshadowed by the aftermath of the occasion, with Vinicius taking to social media to express his pain following the abuse.

He has since gained a lot of support from fellow footballers as well as his manager Carlo Ancelotti, while LaLiga president Javier Tebas has also received huge criticism for his response to the entire situation.

Valencia confirmed on Tuesday that three fans had been arrested and that they are working with local authorities to identify more culprits, who will also be banned by the club.

LaLiga has now confirmed that Valencia have been served with a fine and a partial stadium closure for five matches as the result of the racist abuse by a section of their fanbase.

"The Competition Committee has sanctioned Valencia CF with the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium for five matches, more specifically of the south stand Mario Kempes, following the events which took place during the Primera Division National League Championship match between the home team and Real Madrid CF," a statement from the organisation read.

"It is considered proven that, as reflected by the referee in his report, there were racist shouts at Vinicius, a Real Madrid CF player, during the aforementioned match, disrupting the normal course of the match and considering the offences to be very serious.

"In addition, a financial penalty of €45 000 (R930 000) was imposed on Valencia."

LaLiga have also decided to withdraw the red card given to Vinicius for his conduct towards a Valencia player in the game as they argue that the match referee was not provided with sufficient replays by VAR to make an informed judgement on the incident.

"This Committee considers it to be established that the referee's assessment was determined by the omission of the entirety of the play that took place," the statement continued.

"Indeed, the fact that he was deprived of a decisive part of the facts led him to adopt an arbitrary decision. And this is because it was impossible for him to properly assess what happened, because in the procedure necessary for the adoption of such a decision there was the omission of an essential step for it to have been legitimately and legally adopted."

Vinicius will thus no longer serve a two or three-match ban for the red card, while the VAR official in charge on the day, Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva, has since been stood down by Spain's football federation.

The Selecao star could therefore feature in Los Blancos' next match against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday pending tests on a potential knee problem.
