Former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon has criticised Los Blancos for failing to replace five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since Ronaldo's departure in 2017, Karim Benzema has been Los Blancos' main source of goals, which was closely followed by defender Sergio Ramos.
Los Blancos have now suffered defeats to Cadiz and Shakhtar Donestk ahead of Saturday's El Clasico, and Calderon feels the club are paying the price for selling Ronaldo.
"Since Cristiano was stupidly sold, it was clear that the team needed reinforcements in that position and in others but the sad reality is that the club's accounts are not only bare but are also full of bills to the tune of around 1,000 million - bills that have to be paid," Calderon told reporters, as per Goal.
"He's [Zidane] doing what he can with the resources available to him.
"The Shakhtar performance wasn't good, there were a lot of mistakes, I'm sure in the line-up too, but you cannot pin the blame on one person, it's an accumulation of circumstances, a chain of events which have led to this. It was lunacy to sell Cristiano when they don't have anyone to score goals."
