African star set for record-breaking move to Euro giants?

A top European club has reportedly now made an approach for an African star whose release clause is said to be worth a massive €100 million (R1.9 billion).

Paris Saint-Germain are now said to be in search of several important reinforcements following the departure of Kylian Mbappe.

Replacing the Frenchman is set to be a huge task for the sporting director Luis Campos. However, it is noted that the club have also made finding a new centre-back a priority as well.

As such, the Parisians have been keeping tabs on Lille's 18-year-old sensation Leny Yoro, who has reportedly drawn the interest of Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Liverpool as well.

Now, a report by Foot Mercato claims that PSG have since turned their sights onto Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba.

It is said that the Ligue 1 champions have already made contact with the Bayer Leverkusen star, who has a release clause of €100 million (R1.9 billion).

Should PSG agree a deal with the player and activate his release clause, Tapsoba could set a new record by becoming the most expensive African transfer, topping a record currently held by Nigeria's Victor Osimhen - who joined Napoli from Lille in a deal worth €77.5 million (R1.5 billion) in 2020.

Tapsoba enjoyed an impressive 2023/24, as he claimed a historic Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal under manager Xabi Alonso.

The 25-year-old featured prominently for the German side, making 46 appearances in all competitions last term and registering three goals and one assist in the process.

It is also believed that there's interest in Tapsoba from England too, as United are reportedly also keeping an eye on his situation although his massive release clause would make bringing him to Old Trafford difficult.
