Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has now been taken into police custody

French police have taken the manager into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into discrimination during his time at his former club Nice, according to The Athletic.

The 56-year-old is accused of using racist insults and derogatory remarks about players during his stint with the club in the 2021/22 campaign, with his son, John-Valovic Galtier, also taken in for questioning, although both have denied any wrongdoing in the matter.

The allegations are said to have first surfaced in April this year when RMC Sport journalist Romain Molina published an email alleged to have been from Nice's then-football director Julien Fournier to Sir. Dave Brailsford, the director of sport at INEOS, the company that owns the club.

The email contained damaging allegations against Galtier and his son, who are accused to complaining about having too many Black and Muslim players in the squad at the time.

According to The Spectator Index, the Parisians head coach made shocking utterances in an email to the Nice hierarchy, saying: "You have built a team of scum. There are only blacks and half the team go to the mosque on Friday."

The tactician later released a statement through his lawyer, absolving himself of any responsibility. He also vowed to take legal action against those who are "damaging" his reputation and is believed to have already filed a defamation complaint.

A police search at Nice's training ground was conducted as part of the investigation, and staff members and executives were also questioned by the authorities, with Galtier having now been detained by police.

PSG, when confronted with the issue in April, said: "Serious allegations have been made in the media against our coach Christophe Galtier.

"Christophe responded clearly by firmly denying them and announcing that he was going to take legal action. The club supports Christophe Galtier after the numerous and unacceptable threats he has received and now wants the truth to be established by justice."

Galtier's departure from the Parc des Princes is thought to be only a matter of time, with his replacement Luis Enrique reportedly already ready to take over the reins.
