In-demand African star set to leave French club

African star Nicolas Pepe, who has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, is headed for LOSC Lille's exit door, according to the French club's president.

Pepe, 23, has enjoyed an excellent season in France, finding the back of the net on 21 occasions to help the Great Danes finish as runners-up to confirmed champions Paris Saint-Germain in the 2018/19 campaign.

As a result, the Ivory Coast international, who is in second position in the league's top goalscorer chart behind Kylian Mbappe, is said to have attracted a host of interest from big clubs throughout Europe.

Lille president Christophe Galtier has now confirmed they are resigned to losing their star attacker in the transfer window, with Pepe's suitors likely to start a bidding war.

"Nicolas Pepe will leave," Galtier told Canal+.

"Life's like that, football's like that today. He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club."

Galtier also had some advice for the Ivorian winger, saying he should weigh up his next move carefully in the best interest of his career.

"There will be a battle between the great European teams. I hope that he will take good amount of time to think about it, do his research," the LIlle president added.

"Like he did when he came here and when he decided to stay here (last summer), find the right project."

Pepe has scored 23 goals and registered 12 assists in the 40 appearances he has made for Lille across all competitions so far this season.
