With many of their attempts having been rebuffed, it now appears that Los Blancos are in the best position yet to finally seal the move.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Mbappe has decided he will leave PSG at the end of his contract in June.
The report adds that the French giants were informed of his decision in early January, and that they requested that the 25-year-old hold back on making a public announcement as a lot would be at stake.
It is said matters such as the audiovisual rights of Ligue 1 were in negotiations for a sale, and that news of Mbappe's departure would have a significant impact on the valuation of the deal, thus explaining the silence around his decision.
Now, though, Mbappe's camp are said to be likely to make the announcement imminently, with the pre-agreed truce between the player and the Parisians now coming to an end.
