Kylian Mbappe wins Ligue 1 Golden Boot award

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has won the Ligue 1 Golden Boot award, despite scoring the same number of goals as AS Monaco star Wissam Ben Yedder this season.

On Thursday, Ligue 1 confirmed that Mbappe had retained his Golden Boot crown after topping the scoring charts for the recently-ended 2019/20 campaign.

The 21-year-old recorded a tally of 18 goals in just 20 appearances for the Parisian giants, while countryman Ben Yedder achieved the same return in six more appearances for rivals Monaco.

French publication L'Equipe claim that the separating factor between the two players was not the goals-to-game ratio, however, but rather that Mbappe had scored all of his goals from open play, while Ben Yedder netted three times from the penalty spot.

Olympique Lyon forward Moussa Dembele rounded out the top three after netting 16 goals before the league was prematurely cancelled late last month as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
