Mbappe's family 'stopping' African star's move to England

Kylian Mbappe's family is now said to be stopping an African star's move to England after the player scored 23 goals last season and was also recently linked with Al Ahly.

According to Chronicle Live UK, Alexandre Mendy's move to England has been halted due to the Mbappe family's attempt to keep him with French second-tier side SM Caen.

It is understood that the Mbappe clan is in contact with the Normandy-based club after its current owner Pierre-Antoine Capton revealed that they are looking for new owners.

RMC Sport claims that Mbappe himself is keen on owning a team following his move to Real Madrid, and that he has instructed representatives of his company, KM7, to continue discussions over a purchase.

As such, the Mbappe company has delayed Mendy's proposed move to English second-tier team Sunderland.

It is reported that the Guinea-Bissau international has rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia and Sampdoria in Italy in favour of joining Sunderland, whilst Al Ahly were also mooted as a potential destination recently.

On Friday, Mendy reportedly flew to England to complete a medical, but the move could now fail due to the Mbappe family's involvement as they attempt to convince him to stay on at Caen.

The 30-year-old registered 23 goals and two assists in 39 matches across all competitions last term, ending 2023/24 as his club's top scorer as Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2.

Born in France, where he has played his entire career so far, Mendy changed his international allegiance to Guinea-Bissau in 2020, and has since made seven appearances for the African country.
