Toothless PSG denied back-to-back wins

Paris Saint-Germain were denied back-to-back wins in Ligue 1 following a disappointing goalless draw against Clermont on Saturday evening.

Despite a two-goal blitz in the demolishing of Olympique Marseille last weekend, Goncalo Ramos wasn't rewarded with a start by PSG who showed Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe in the latter third.

There were a lot of tense moments from the respective outfits in the opening stages, though PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma were needed to in some instances keep matters firm.

Clermont then left themselves exposed before the half-hour mark which in-turn prompted Dembele to get on the edge of the area following a cutback and stung the gloves of Mory Diaw.

The home team pulled to the fore again a little to the closing quarter of the first half and saw Shamar Nicholson go over the top from the head after a corner from Maxime Gonalons.

With halftime in sight, Diaw was put to work once more when he showed smart reflexes to smother a half-volley from Dembele following Vitinha's cross-field delivery.

Clermont edged to the lead a minute in the second half through Nicholson's snap shot from a loose ball but Donnarumma parried before the follow-up from Yohann Magnin worked a goal-line clearance from Danilo Pereira.

The reigning champions came alive minutes later where Dembele turned an angle before setting up Mbappe in the centre of the box, but the French skipper snapped wide.

Manager Luis Enrique decided to strengthen their resolve in the closing quarter and introduced Ramos for Bradley Barcola as well as Warren Zaire-Emery ahead of Vitinha.

Despite the reinforcements, PSG weren't able to get an opening and in the end were forced to share the spoils.
