Ligue 1 match report Montpellier v Lyon

Olympique Lyon's winning start to the Ligue 1 season came to the end after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Montpellier on Tuesday evening at Stade De La Mosson.

Lyon named an unchanged side from the thrashing of Angers, with the trio of Memphis Depay, Moussa Dembele and Bertrand Traore leading the attack.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana winger Keagan Dolly started on the bench for the hosts, as he eases back into the starting XI after an injury ravaged 2018/19 season.

The home side almost had a dream start as Nicolas Cozza rattled the post in the first minute of the game after he found himself with space inside the box, following a through ball from Gaetan Laborde.

Houssem Aouar came close to breaking the deadlock for the visitors in the 32nd minute with a thumping strike from just outside the the box that was smothered by goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

Montpellier ventually drew first blood three minutes before the break, courtesy of Arnaud Souquet with a curling shot from outside the box that found the top corner.

Les Gones endured a bad start in the second stanza, as they were reduced to ten men seven minutes after the break after Youssouf Kone was red-carded for violent conduct.

Sylvinho made a tactical change in the 65th minute, bringing on defender Kenny Tete in place of midfielder Lucas Tousart to plug the gap left by the dismissal of Kone at the back.

With15 minutes remaining, Dolly replaced Florent Mollet in the number 10 role to inject further pace into the attack that looked to break 10-man Lyon on the counter.

Michel der Zakarian's side managed to hold on to a first victory of the season, while Les Gones dropped points and lost a league match for the first time this campaign.
