Mbappe stars as PSG thrash Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain bagged back-to-back wins in Ligue 1 with a 4-1 thrashing of Olympique Lyon on Sunday night.

Zimbabwe international Tino Kadewere was recalled to the Lyon starting line-up, while PSG were unchanged from their victory over RC Lens last weekend.

Luis Enrique's charges got off to the perfect start when they awarded a penalty after just three minutes for Corentin Tolisso's foul on Manual Ugarte. Mbappe took responsibility and made no mistake from close range.

While Lyon struggled to carve out chances, the defending champions bagged a second goal on 20 minutes when Achraf Hakimi fired into an empty net after a poor error from goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

The home side had the woodwork to thank for not being three goals down with 15 minutes gone in the first half, as Hakimi rattled the crossbar from close range with only Lopes to beat.

PSG went onto to secure a three-goal lead after Marco Asensio added his name to the score-sheet with a close-range finish after some good work by Ugarte in the build-up.

The fourth goal arrived on the stroke of halftime as Mbappe doubled his tally with a delicate finish past Lopes after being played through on goal by Asensio's neat pass.

Enrique's charges continued to dominate in the second half, as Dembele squandered two chances in the opening 15 minutes after denied by the crossbar while slicing a shot a few minutes later.

The home side did reduce the deficit with 15 minutes left on the clock when Tolisso converted a penalty after Nicolás Tagliafico was brought down by Warren Zaïre-Emery in the box.
