Messi 'makes first call' on his future

Lionel Messi has reportedly made the first big call regarding his future.

The Argentina captain continues to edge closer to the end of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain and is yet to decide whether he will extend his stay or move on to another club.

The French giants are believed to be keen to retaining his services and negotiations over a new deal are said to have got underway last month, although a decision is yet to be reached.

Other potential suitors are thought to be attentively monitoring the situation, including his former team FC Barcelona and United States outfit Inter Miami, with the latter having already set out a plan to interest the 35-year-old in a move, according to reports.

Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal reportedly hold the most lucrative offer for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, with a bid worth €600 million (R11.9 billion) across two seasons said to be on the table.

However, Spanish outlet Diario SPORT claims that Messi has decided not to listen to any proposals from the Middle East, specifically in Saudi Arabia where his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo currently plies his trade.

His father Jorge Messi, who is also his agent, recently dismissed various reports surrounding his son's future of late, as well as suggestions of tension between the player and PSG boss Christophe Galtier.

While the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is a tourism ambassador for the Middle Eastern country, it is suggested that he likely wants to continue in Europe.

Meanwhile, PSG are said to be preparing a second proposal to get Messi to sign a contract renewal.
