PSG take 'decision' on Messi's future

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly taken a decision on Lionel Messi's future amid the links with FC Barcelona.

The Ligue 1 leaders expect the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner to leave at the end of the current season, according to the Mirror.

Messi joined PSG as a free agent in 2021 but is now expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

The 35-year-old has been influential for the French side this season after bagging 20 goals and 15 assists across all competition, although the team did disappoint in the UEFA Champions League for the second successive season.

The Mirror report that club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is eyeing a more sustainable project in Paris, with emphasis on young French players rather than signing big-name players.

The reports will come as good news for Barcelona, especially after vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed contact has already been made with Messi's camp over a possible return.

While no official approach has been for the Argentine yet, reports claim that any potential would hinge on the Catalans' financial situation although the club are seemingly looking to only sign free agents next season.

Messi looks set to win his second Ligue 1 title with PSG, although his time in the French capital has been underwhelming after registering 31 goals and 34 assists in 70 appearance over the past two years.
