PSG 'identify' Messi replacement

With Lionel Messi widely expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, the French giants are said to have already identified his replacement.

About a month-and-a-half remains on Messi's deal at the Parc des Princes, and many reports point to the player leaving the club following a dramatic past few weeks, during which he was suspended by the club over a disciplinary breach.

His return to action on the weekend, in a 5-0 win over Ajaccio, was not well-received by all as some sections of the PSG fanbase booed him every time he got on the ball, leaving many wondering if his relationship with the club's supporters will ever be restored.

Les Parisiens have seemingly begun preparing themselves for life without the Argentine, and have reportedly identified a Premier League star as his replacement.

According to Goal, Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva is the French giants' top target amid the player's potential departure from the Etihad in the coming months.

Despite being a key player in Pep Guardiola's side, the Portugal international is believed to have been seeking a new challenge in the past few windows, with FC Barcelona also having made him a priority last season but that move never materialised as the Spanish club spent handsomely on Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.

With the report claiming PSG want the 28-year-old to fill in the right-sided midfield role, this is not the first time that the French club has pursued the former AS Monaco star, with the two parties said to have had an agreement at the beginning of last season but the move fell through due to financial reasons.

Barca president Joan Laporta, meanwhile, recently confessed he had an agreement to sign Silva back in 2015 but missed out on him after losing the club's presidential election at the time.

"I know him (Silva) personally. In 2015 I had an agreement for him to sign. But then I did not win the election," the Spanish chief said, according to Diario AS.
