Trophée des Champions match report Paris Saint-Germain v Rennes

Paris Saint Germain clinched the Trophee des Champions title after a 2-1 win over Stade Rennes, avenging last season's French cup final defeat in the process.

Old and new circulated PSG's line-up with Abdou Diallo, Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia joining Kylian Mbappe, Edison Cavani and Marco Verratti in Neymar's absence.

A floated delivery from Sarabia 12 minutes in found Thilo Kehrer, who headed against the crossbar after a mistimed jump to the ball.

Less than a minute, Adrien Hunou applied a first-time finish past Alfonse Areola to give Rennes the lead from a Benjamin Bourigeaud cross.

PSG looked to go in to halftime level-pegging, but weren't able to breakthrough to the opposing defence who remained resolute.

Hunou made way at the break as part of a tactical switch, with Sacha Boey taking off the tracksuit for the aforementioned individual.

Their resistance were finally breached inside the 57th minute after Mbappe creeped up on the far side to finish from point-blank range.

Angel Di Maria replaced Herrera three minutes later for his first outing of the new campaign in the Chinese city. Inside a minute, Mbappe looked for a brace after darting in to the area but Tomas Koubek saved for a corner.

Di Maria completed the turnaround after lifting a free-kick from close-range over the wall 73 minutes in, with Koubek stranded.

PSG controlled the tempo of the match in the final minutes, with Rennes unable to stage a come back as the Qatari-owned club bagged the crown.
