Manchester United have now reportedly drawn up a five-man strikers shortlist after ending their pursuit of Harry Kane.
According to reports, the Red Devils halted their interest in Kane last week, with the idea of directly negotiating with Tottenham Hotspur CEO Daniel Levy said to be a huge factor in their decision to withdraw from the potential deal, which would likely have cost them upwards of £100 million (R2.3 billion).

The Manchester club has reportedly since turned its sights to five other centre-forwards, including two Serie A stars.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United are interested in both Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund of Napoli and Atalanta, respectively.
It is said that neither striker would come cheap, with the Nigerian's price estimated to be around €150 million (R2.9 billion), while the Danish sensation could cost in the region of €80 million (R1.5 billion) after a breakthrough season in Italy that saw the 20-year-old register nine goals and four assist in the league.
United face serious competition for the abovementioned duo, though, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea having also been credited with interest in both stars.
Eintracht Frankfurt talisman Randal Kolo Muani is reportedly also being considered by the Mancunians after he contributed with 23 goals and 17 assists for the German side in 2022/22.
Asked about his future during the current international break, the 24-year-old Frenchman admitted that he dreams of playing for a European giant.
"Honestly, I want to keep improving and working hard," Kolo Muani said. "It's my dream to play for the big clubs – why not? But right now it's off-topic, I'm with the national team."
Here are five strikers United are reportedly chasing:
The two other candidates believed to be on the Red Devils' radar are Goncalo Ramos of Benfica and Aston Villa talisman Oliie Watkins.
The former has caught the eye with Portugal after he made his debut in A Selecao's final friendly ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he shone with four goal contributions in four games after replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting XI.
He also capped off an impressive 2022/23 campaign with 27 goals and 12 assists to help Benfica win the league a record extending 38th time.
Watkins, meanwhile, has 15 goal involvements for the Villans since the start of 2023 after enduring a poor start to the latest campaign.
Some believe, however, that the Englishman could be tempted to stay on at Villa Park as he is said to be very happy after reinventing himself under Unai Emery, who took charge of the Midlands club midway through the season to guide them to qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
