The Netherlands international is understood to have flown to Manchester on Monday morning to complete a medical before signing a five-year contract with the Red Devils.
His arrival comes after United struggled in the heart of defence over the course of last season, with manager Erik ten Hag having to field 14 different centre-back combinations in the 2023/24 campaign.
De Ligt's signing also comes after the departures of Willy Kambwala, who joined LALIGA outfit Villarreal, and Raphael Varane, who now plays for Serie A side Como.
In addition to reuniting with Ten Hag, the player will once more take to the field with former Ajax teammate Andre Onana, with the pair having played more than 100 games together during their time in the Netherlands, while he will also be joining up with Antony, who represented the Eredivisie powerhouse between 2020 and 2022 before his switch to the Red Devils.
After his breakout at Ajax, De Ligt went on to represent Juventus, where he made 117 appearances, winning the Serie A title as well as a domestic cup before moving to Bayern in 2022.
At the Bavarian giants, the centre-back amassed 73 appearances and helped the side to a Bundesliga title.

Now, however, the Dutchman will be eager to stamp his authority on the Premier League as United look to improve on their 2023/24 display in the EPL which saw the side finish in a lowly eighth place.
