The player is understood to have also attracted the interest of a number of European sides as well as other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United, meanwhile, are believed to see the 18-year-old as a future first-team option as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen that defensive midfield position in his squad.
It is suggested the young Malian will be first given the opportunity to adjust to life in England, and will be integrated into the club's U21 set-up.
Kone represented his country at the U17 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, helping them reach the semi-finals, where they suffered defeat to Morocco, losing the encounter on penalties.
He also contributed with two assists at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup, and played a considerable role in the team's journey to the semi-finals, where they were beaten 2-1 by France.
