Ten Hag: New Liverpool boss has it better than I did at Man Utd

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has seemingly poured cold water on the hype around new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, insisting his Dutch compatriot has it easier than he did when he arrived at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag and Slot finds themselves in vastly different situations, with the latter set to begin his tenure at Liverpool on Saturday, 1 June, to much anticipation, while the former faces the risk of being sacked in the near future.

Slot's arrival makes him the 10th Premier League manager ever to hail from the Netherlands, following the likes of Ruud Gullit, Louis van Gaal, and Gus Hiddink.

Ten Hag, however, appeared unmoved by the work Slot has done in recent seasons in the Dutch top flight with Feyenoord, remarking recently that his team was not even the best in the Eredivisie this season.

"People have been going overly lyrical about Feyenoord," Ten Hag said, according to The Mirror.

"Feyenoord were steady this year, but not top. PSV Eindhoven were two classes better in all areas. In terms of dominating the ball, in terms of putting pressure, in terms of intensity, you name it.

"[PSV manager Peter] Bosz and his staff did that top notch, but the rest of the club is also well put together. PSV Eindhoven were better than the rest by such a long distance, even so much better than Feyenoord."

Speaking during an interview with VI.NL, Ten Hag added that Slot is walking into an easier job than he did when he joined the Red Devils from Ajax Amsterdam two years ago.

"This is great for the Dutch trainers' guild, and Arne Slot also fits Liverpool with his philosophy," he stated.

"Jurgen Klopp and Pepijn Lijnders have left a strong foundation.

"He ends up in better waters than I did when I went to Manchester United from the Netherlands, in terms of structure in the club, in terms of balance in the squad."
