Van Nistelrooy 'lands' new EPL job

A former Manchester United manager is set to make a sensational return to the Premier League as Leicester City's new manager following the dismissal of Steve Cooper.

Ruud van Nistelrooy impressed during his short spell as interim boss at Old Trafford, stepping in after the departure of Erik ten Hag, overseeing four games with three wins and a draw.

Notably, two of those victories came against Leicester City – a 5-2 Carabao Cup triumph and a convincing 3-0 Premier League win – before he vacated the position to make way for Ruben Amorim.

Now, the Dutchman will take charge of a struggling Leicester side, according to The Telegraph.

The side currently sits 16th in the league, with only two wins in 12 encounters, just a single point above the relegation zone.

The team's most recent defeat came against Enzo Maresca's Chelsea, and in the aftermath of the encounter, Cooper was shown the door.

The Englishman had been unable to replicate the success the side enjoyed under his predecessor, who now has the Blues soaring near the top of the table.

Van Nistelrooy's last, and only, permanent managerial role was between July 2022 and May 2023 when he was in charge of Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.

He led the team to domestic glory, winning a domestic cup and finishing runners-up in the league.

Van Nistelrooy's first test in his new role could come in Saturday's trip to Brentford, with daunting fixtures against West Ham, Brighton, Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers to follow.
