How much Ten Hag's sacking could cost Man Utd 'revealed'

The amount of money Manchester United would have to pay out if they decide to sack under-pressure boss Erik ten Hag has now reportedly been revealed.

The Dutch tactician made a good start to life in Manchester, finishing his first season at the helm in third place and winning the Carabao Cup. This season, however, things have not gone according to plan.

The Red Devils have started the 2023/24 campaign poorly, and are in eighth position after losing five of their 10 opening league games, with their most recent defeat coming in a crushing 3-0 derby-day loss to rivals Manchester City.

With the Dutchman reportedly on a contract worth £9 million (R206 million) a year until June 2025, the pressure on him continues to mount as his side continues to struggle.

Considering their poor results, sacking their current boss would cost the club more than £15 million (R343 million), according to the Daily Mirror

However, reports suggest that the manager's job is not under threat just yet, and that he retains the backing of the United hierarchy for now.

Speaking after the defeat to their neighbours on Sunday, Ten Hag said that he and his men must focus on the next game.

"When you play against this team, everything has to be perfect. So you don't need help but also you don't want anything against you," he said via the club's official website.

"We have to accept that but don't forget the game plan was very good in the first half. It hurts a lot. As you say, losing the derby is horrible.

"It could have been going a different way but it didn't. Now you have to deal with it. Accept it, how it is, and, in 24 hours, you have to get up and go the next game [Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday]."
