It is reported that the tactician will manage his current side for the next three games, suggesting that his first game in charge of the English outfit will be against Ipswich Town on 24 November.
This comes after the Red Devils decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag, who led the club to a disappointing start to the 2024/25 campaign that saw them pick up just 11 points from nine matches.
It is understood that Amorim has an £8.4 million (R193 million) release clause, along with a 30-day notice period, in his deal with Sporting.
However, the Premier League side are said to be ready to pay an extra £830 000 (R19 million) to ensure that the 39-year-old could begins working as soon as the next international break in November.
The Portuguese coach is believed to have already picked the staff he wants to accompany him to Old Trafford, which could mean that the Red Devils will have to reach into their wallets for further compensation.
First-team coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira are the individuals suggested to join Amorim on his new venture in England.
The United-bound coach joined Sporting in 2020, and has since won two league titles, two domestic cups as well as a Portuguese Super Cup.
