Man Utd 'form' new plan to get rid of Maguire

Manchester United are now reported to have formed a new plan to get rid of former club captain Harry Maguire.

Maguire's days at Old Trafford could now be numbered, with new reports suggesting that the club is actively working on a plan to part ways with the defender.

In August 2019, the England international joined United from Leicester City in a deal worth €87 million (R1.6 billion), making him the most expensive British defender in Premier League history.

In five years on the United's books, however, the player has slowly drop down the pecking order, especially over the past two seasons at the club.

Maguire has started just 28 out of a possible 61 Premier League matches since Dutch boss Erik ten Hag's arrival at the Theatre of Dreams, and has been left on the bench as an unused substitute 19 times too.

The 31-year-old was also subjected to some serious criticism by United fans in 2023, with many calling for his departure.

The time to leave Manchester could now be on the horizon, with Football Insider claiming that the English giants are hatching a plan to sell Maguire in January 2025.

The defender's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but United have decided they will try to sell him in a few months' time to avoid extending his contract in June 2025 as they would not like to lose him on a free transfer.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Maguire has the option to extend for another year in his contract, but Ten Hag and the club's leadership are not keen to retain him until June 2026 given the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt earlier this term.

Maguire has made 213 appearances for United to date, winning two trophies in the process, namely the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
