Manchester United have now reportedly placed a bid for another African star after signing Andre Onana.
The Red Devils are ramping up their efforts in the transfer market, having signed Cameroonian goalkeeper Onana in a deal worth €52.5 million (R1 million) from Inter Milan late last week.

Mason Mount was their first 2023/24 arrival prior to that, and a third new signing is now expected at the club, with Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund thought to be the potential transfer in question.
It is now being reported, however, that the Manchester club has made a big move for yet another midfield addition.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, United have submitted a bid worth €25 million (R486 million), plus bonuses, for Sofyan Amrabat.
The Morocco international became one of the most highly sought-after defensive midfielders in the game after impressing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he helped the Atlas Lions to a historic fourth-place finish to become the first African nation ever to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
FC Barcelona were reportedly mulling over a move for the 26-year-old, but their shaky financial situation saw the Spanish giants pull out of the race for his signature.
A separate report by Corriere della Sera claims that Liverpool also made an approach for the player, but adds that he turned down the Reds' advances in favour of United, whom it is said he has already agreed to sign for.
He is also now reportedly training on his own, away from La Viola's first-team squad.
With the Dutch-born star having one year remaining on his current deal in Italy, Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone stated earlier this month that they would evaluate any offer that came in for him.
"He [Amrabat] is also very attached to the team and to me too, we speak in English and we talk almost every day," he told Sky Sport Italy.
"At the moment nothing official has arrived, I told him to come here concentrated because he is a Fiorentina player.
"He must have his head here and be ready for the start of the league, then if something comes, we'll evaluate it.
"We have an already very strong midfield department."
