Greenwood causes new stir, statement issued

Mason Greenwood, now on loan out in Spain from Manchester United, has caused yet another stir, forcing a particular company to issue a statement on the matter.

The 22-year-old's career took a massive nose-dive in January 2022, when he was arrested on assault and attempted rape charges. The player denied the allegations and the case was later dropped in February 2023.

Following a lengthy internal review by his parent club United, he was offloaded to Getafe on loan in August.

It has since been reported that he will never play for the Red Devils again, although it is unclear if he will be sold or loaned out again, or if his contract at Old Trafford will be terminated at the end of the current campaign.

The Englishman is now rebuilding his career in LALIGA with the hope of putting the saga fully behind him.

However, this week he cast himself into the spotlight following a recent social media post he made.

According to The Sun, Greenwood posted a picture of himself wearing Nike trainers, his former outfitter prior to the scandal.

The sportswear brand cut ties with the forward following his arrest in 2022, and with his recent social media post leading to speculation that he may have reunited with the company, Nike has quickly addressed the rumours with a statement, with a spokesperson telling the abovementioned publication: "Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete."

It is further claimed that the US sportswear stressed that there is now no relationship of any kind between them and Greenwood.

The marksman has not penned a deal with another boot maker since Nike cut him loose, thus allowing him to sign with a rival sponsor in the event that he is approached.

Greenwood has continued to play with Nike boots in the Spanish top flight, though, despite no longer having a relationship with the label.
