A statement from United's official website read: "Andre Onana has joined Manchester United on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.

"The Cameroonian goalkeeper has kept 104 clean sheets in 255 club appearances.

"He won three league titles and two KNVB Cups with Ajax before joining Inter in 2022.

"Last season, he won the Coppa Italia and recorded the most clean sheets in the Champions League."

He now becomes the most expensive African goalkeeper of all time, with United having paid Inter Milan a reported fee of €60 million (R1.2 billion), including add-ons, to secure his signature, beating the previous record held by Edouard Mendy following his recent switch to Al Ahli from Chelsea.

At Old Trafford, Onana will be reuniting with manager Erik ten Hag, having worked with the tactician during their time together at Ajax Amsterdam.

"I want and I hope to win the Champions League at Manchester United," he told Gazzetta della Sport prior to signing the deal to join the Red Devils.

"I really want to start this new exciting experience, with a coach who is a master for me."

The 27-year-old leaves the Nerazzurri on the back on a successful one-season stint in Milan, winning two Italian cups and helping the Serie A giants reach their first UEFA Champions League final since 2010.
