WINLESS: Man Utd drop more points at Villa

Manchester United's struggles continued after playing to a goalless draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez were relegated to the bench for Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire to come in, with captain Bruno Fernandes available after having his red-card against Tottenham Hotspur rescinded in midweek.

Pacey Marcus Rashford came inches to giving the visitors the lead on five minutes from a loose off possession involving the returning Matty Cash, but he dragged wide.

An unfortunate situation six minutes apart forced the Clarets to bring on Diego Carlos to the heart of defence and removed Ezri Konsa who battled to continue following an injury pull.

Villa still managed to fancy going ahead despite the interruption and saw Jaden Philogene come in from a clever angle in and dragged wide on his maiden start in the Premier League.

Substitutions for the Red Devils following halftime had De Ligt come on for Maguire who picked up an injury before Victor Lindelof replaced Noussair Mazraoui.

Rashford went close again two minutes after the break with a stumping effort from 20-yards following a ferocious charge on goal, but Emiliano Martinez tipped behind.

At the other end, the Clarets had a chance of their own from a similar position where Youri Tielemans pounced on a layoff by Leon Bailey to take aim but Andre Onana palmed away.

United did threaten late on when a dipping effort through a free-kick by Fernandes crashed off the woodwork with substitute Antony unable to finish off the rebound.

There weren't much given between the two following the final stages to full-time and settled for a point apiece with United's disappointing run continuing.
