With Harry Maguire's career having taken a sharp downward turn in recent seasons, his former teammate at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo, has now been accused of being a major factor in the Manchester United defender's downfall.
Maguire was once again ridiculed after scoring an own goal during an international friendly between England and Scotland earlier this week.

This treatment of the star will not have been a surprise to many, though, as he has often had to deal with criticism from United, Three Lions fans and other football fans over the past couple of seasons.
Some England supporters have called for him to be dropped by manager Gareth Southgate, while he also appears to be an unwanted figure at Old Trafford after his expected departure in the recent transfer window never materialised.
With Maguire's mother having also come out in defence of her son, with a statement on social media lambasting the "disgraceful" treatment he has received, former Liverpool captain-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has now listed two moments he believes hurt Maguire's standing at the Red Devils, including an incident involving Ronaldo in 2022.

"Manchester United fans jeered Maguire during pre-season games in 2022 and 2023," he explained, according to the Manchester Evening News
"One of the most distasteful incidents of all occurred during the friendly with Borussia Dortmund in July, when new signing Andre Onana started yelling at Maguire, in my view disgracefully playing to the gallery to endear himself to United fans.
"I watched that in disbelief, but it said everything about what has gone wrong. Maguire was still the club captain then. He should have reacted furiously, put Onana in his box and demanded respect.
"Instead, he has the persona of someone whose confidence and authority is utterly broken.
"It was a similar story when Cristiano Ronaldo returned and reports emerged about power struggles in the United dressing room.
"That is when the undermining of Maguire gained momentum."
