BREAKING: Real Madrid sign 'Turkish Messi'

Real Madrid have now officially announced the signing of a highly-rated star who has already been touted as the "Turkish Lionel Messi".

Los Blancos have confirmed the transfer of Arda Guler from Fenerbahce on a six-year deal.

"Real Madrid CF and Fenerbahce SK have agreed on the transfer of the player Arda Güler, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons," a statement on Real's official website reads.

"Tomorrow, Friday, July 7, at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City, the presentation ceremony for Arda Güler as a new Real Madrid player will take place. Next, Arda Güler will appear before the media."

The 18-year-old joins for a fixed fee of €20 million (R407 million), while it is understood his former side retains a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer.

The attacking midfielder chipped in with six goals and seven assists in 35 appearances in his breakout 2022/23 campaign, helping his former team to a second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig.

Real had to fend off a number of other suitors for the teenager's signature, including their biggest rivals FC Barcelona, who were believed to be in the lead for his signature earlier this week, but fell short of signing the youngster despite their best efforts, including sending scouts and new sporting director Deco to try to sway the player's decision their way.

Guler already has a soaring reputation in his native country, having been labelled the "Turkish Messi" due to his astounding talent, gifted left foot and diminutive physical presence, among other attributes.
