Ancelotti reveals his pick to win UCL

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has now revealed who he thinks are favourites to win the Champions League.

Having been knocked out of the tournament at the semi-finals stage by Manchester City last year, the Italian coach has tipped the Citizens to win the competition once again this year.

"City are favourites because they have a squad that saw them win it last season and they haven't changed much. However in the Champions League, like always, there are surprises at the end," Ancelotti said as per 90mins.

"Real Madrid are a team that are going to fight until the end. We never think of ourselves as favourites, just as I think City don't. They won it last year, they can win the Champions League."

The Manchester club took full advantage of the most recent transfer window, strengthening the squad by adding the likes of Jasko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic to their already star studded squad.

The new acquisitions seem to be paying dividends as City are top of the Premier League table after winning each of their five opening games. The Sky Blues also kicked off their UCL campaign with a bang, beating Serbian club Crvena zvezda 3-1  on Tuesday.

Real are not doing too bad either. Los Blancos have been victorious in all of their first five games as well, with star signing Jude Bellingham making a great start to life in Madrid. The England international has scored five goals in as many matches, stamping his authority on LALIGA.

Real Madrid kick their European campaign with a clash against Union Berlin on Wednesday, and Ancelotti was full of praise for the UCL newcomers.

"They're a new team in the Champions League but the fact they're here means they've done very well. They're well organised defensively, they're solid and they play with intensity," he said.

The Champions League is a special competition for us. We're going to treat tomorrow's game as something special. We want to get off to a good start in the group stage and we're playing at home."
