Man City star breaks silence on Real Madrid links

Having reportedly received interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, a Manchester City star has now made his stance on the potential switch known.

Los Blancos are looking to make a blockbuster signing at the end of the 2024/25 season, and have turned their attention to midfielder Rodri, according to The Independent

It is claimed the LALIGA powerhouse has made the 28-year-old one of their primary targets, with the club also said to be closely monitoring the progress of City's hearing into the 115 Financial Fair Play charges against them.

It has been further suggested that the former Villarreal star wants to return to Spain and play for Real while he is still in his prime.

However, speaking ahead of his side's UEFA Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday night, Rodri insisted he is not thinking of any other club besides the one he currently represents.

"I have three more years at Man City and when I sign the contract I don't think of other teams," he said, per Football365.

"So I have three more years at Man City, and nothing more to say."

The Citizens are also believed to be keen to extend his contract at the Etihad in order to discourage rival clubs from believing they could strike a deal for the player.

Meanwhile, Rodri also opened up about the fixture congestion in the football calendar following changes to the UCL format – going from the traditional group stage to what is now referred to as a league phase – and the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

This comes after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker said that players are tired of jam-packed calendars, expressing concern that footballers are not being asked for their thoughts before such decisions are made.

The City midfielder was asked if players would strike in protest, to which the 28-year-old replied: "Yes, I think we are close to that.

"If it keeps this way, we will have no other option. It is something that worries us.

"In my experience, 40-50 (games per season) is the amount a player can perform at highest level. After that, you drop because it is impossible to sustain the highest level.

"This year, we can go to 70, maybe 80. In my humble opinion, it is too much. Someone has to take care of ourselves.

"When I am not tired I perform better, and if the people want to see better football, we need to rest."
