In Europe, 24 nations will be viewing the upcoming fixtures as an opportunity to prepare for the 2024 UEFA European Championship, which will take place from 14 June to 14 July.
Tournament hosts Germany have been floundering for the better part of a decade now, with their humiliating 2018 FIFA World Cup group-stage exit whilst being reigning champions seemed to be a precursor to what has since followed.
The four-time world champions are now ranked 16th on FIFA's rankings, behind Africa's Morocco, who are 12th on the standing.
With the Die Mannschaft desperate to avoid another embarrassment at a major tournament, they have now received a huge boost ahead of the Euros from an unlikely source.
Los Blancos star Toni Kroos has announced he will be coming out of international football retirement later this month, more than three years since he initially hung up his boots for the national team.
The 34-year-old wrote on Instagram: "I will play for Germany again in March. Why? Because I was asked by the coach, I'm in the mood and I'm sure that with the team at EURO 2024, much more is possible than what most believe right now!"
His national team boss has also since spoken on the midfielder's return, saying, according to Der Spiegel: "He will fit perfectly into the team we have in mind as a connection player in midfield. He will do us good with his experience.
"Kroos has a special role at his club Real Madrid – he guides young players and shows them how they can work well together as part of a team.
"Toni is a player who will stay calm and keep his composure even in a tight European Championship game and who you can always pass to under pressure.
"Toni has a very clear view of the state of our national team. With each conversation, I felt that he was increasingly enthusiastic about being there at the home Euros and supporting us."
Kroos initially retired from Germany duty in 2021, when former boss Hansi Flick took over, after making 106 appearances for the country.
