Real & Barca set to battle for Greenwood?

Mason Greenwood's impressive Ligue 1 campaign has reportedly caught the attention of two of football's powerhouses: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The 23-year-old forward has been in scintillating form, notching nine goals and two assists in just 13 Ligue 1 appearances.

The attacker's most recent heroics came on Sunday when he coolly slotted an 89th-minute penalty to secure a 2-1 victory over AS Monaco, moving Marseille into second place in the league standings, behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

According to TBRFootball per TEAMtalk, both Los Blancos and Barca are closely monitoring Greenwood's progress in France.

It has been suggested that their interest dates back to his loan spell at Getafe last season, where he caught the attention of the LALIGA giants.

Greenwood then made the permanent move from Manchester United to Marseille for a reported fee of £26.6 million (around R610 million) in July.

However, his stellar performances are believed to have boosted his market value, with speculation suggesting he could command a transfer fee of up to £50 million (R1.1 billion) by the end of the season.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, stand to benefit significantly should the player leave Marseille.

The English outfit are understood to have inserted a sell-on clause of approximately 50% in his deal, resulting in the side potentially pocketing half of any transfer fee Marseille receives.
