Real Madrid 'close to signing' £130m star

Real Madrid are now reportedly close to completing a deal for a highly-rated £130 million (R2.9 billion) star.

With FC Barcelona sitting within touching distance of clinching the 2022/23 LaLiga crown, Real have seemingly begun planning for the future, having already sealed a few deals in the past six months.

In December 2022, the club announced that they had signed Brazilian teenager Endrick from Palmeiras and in February this year, it was confirmed that Rayo Vallecano fullback Fran Garcia had also signed a pre-contract agreement with the Madrid giants.

The former will only arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu when he turns 18 years old in July 2024 and remains on loan at Palmeiras, while the latter is expected to join at the end of the season.

Los Blancos appear to be continuing this proactive approach, with reports now suggesting that they are nearing their first blockbuster transfer for the 2023/24 campaign.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Carlo Ancelotti's side are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

Negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage, with personal terms thought to be almost agreed between the club and the player.

It is claimed that Real's chief scout Juni Calafat was crucial to proceedings, having previously been a driving force in bringing the likes of Vinicius Junior, Fede Valverde and Rodrygo to the Spanish capital.

A new meeting is planned to complete the agreement with the German club, who are reported to be demanding a fee no less than £130 million.

Spanish publication AS also claims that the 19-year-old believes a move to Spain is the best next step in his career after three seasons at Signal Iduna Park in Germany, where he has already made 130 appearances in total and won the 2020/21 German Cup.

Should the deal be finalised, Bellingham will become only the sixth British footballer to represent the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners, following in the footsteps of Steve McManaman, David Beckham, Michael Owen, Jonathan Woodgate and Gareth Bale.
