Despite being awarded the club captaincy as well as amassing 12 goals and five assists in 20 appearances, the 36-year-old's relationship with Al Ittihad is believed to be at an all-time low.

The Saudi club's are reportedly hierarchy have reportedly arranged talks to discuss the potential exit of the Frenchman, after he is said to have gone AWOL in December.

However, a return to Los Blancos has been ruled out as the Spanish giants are believed to have closed the doors to that opportunity.

Reports, meanwhile, have linked the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner with a potential transfer to England's top flight, with a host of clubs that include Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal said to be interested in acquiring the attacker's signature.

Speculation around Benzema's future comes after former Liverpool star Jordan Henderson is said to have forced a move from Al Ettifaq to Ajax Amsterdam after he and the Saudi Pro League side apparently came to the mutual agreement of terminating his contract.

"I'm sad to say that I will be leaving Al Ettifaq with immediate effect. It wasn't an easy decision but one that I feel is best for me and my family," the 33-year-old said in a statement on social media.
