Real Madrid 'planning' early announcement of next star exit

Real Madrid are reportedly considering making an early announcement regarding the exit of one of their top players at the end of the season.

Los Blancos were in action in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, claiming an important 1-0 win in the first leg of their round of 16 clash against RB Leipzig.

One of the narratives that have followed the club in recent months is their recurring injury concerns, with most of their centre-backs out on the sidelines.

Ancelotti has been lauded in some quarters for the way he has managed the situation in the absence of key players and having made no signings in the January transfer window,

While finishing the season on a high remains the top priority for the side, there are lingering questions over the futures of some of their players.

Six first-team stars will be out of contract in July, including goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose loan spell from Chelsea will come to an end in June, Toni Kroos, Joselu, Nacho, Lucas Vasquez, and Luka Modric.

Notably, the Croatian's time at the club seems to be diminishing at a faster rate than others in terms of game time as he has recorded the second-fewest minutes played among Real's midfielders this term, behind only Dani Ceballos.

The 38-year-old has undoubtedly fallen down Ancelotti's pecking order, with the manager even publicly apologising to the veteran for his reduced role in the team this season.

Earlier this month, the Italian coach stated that the ball was in Modric's court regarding a departure.

"He is a legend of this club and of football. He will have to make the decisions for next season," Ancelotti said, according to Marca.

However, per Madrid Universal, the Spanish giants are now ready to sever ties with the playmaker after a 12-year association.

Moreover, it is claimed the club is considering making an announcement to that effect before the 2023/24 campaign ends as they want the player to get a proper farewell from home supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu before the campaign concludes.

Modric has not commented on his Real future in recent months, but has previously stated he had no interest in going to Saudi Arabia, where he is reportedly being courted.
