Real 'revive interest' in Man Utd star

Reigning UEFA Champions League holders Real Madrid have reportedly revived their interest in a certain Manchester United star ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

A month remains before the January window opens, and rumours surrounding Europe's biggest clubs have already begun to swirl amid some inspiring performances at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Real Madrid are widely known for pursuing some of the best-performing players at the showpiece, having signed German stars Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira after the 2010 edition, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos in 2014, and Golden Glove winner Thibaut Courtois after the 2018 tournament in Russia.

With an ageing creative midfield, including Luka Modric and Kroos, various reports have suggested that Los Blancos are keeping an eye out for a new creative playmaker, especially with the aforementioned two stars both being out of contract at the end of the season.

Now, according to Portuguese publication Record, Real are once again interested in signing United star Bruno Fernandes, having been previously keen on the Portugal international before he moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

It is further reported that while the 28-year-old is satisfied in Manchester, he has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the Red Devils if it means taking his career to new heights.

He is currently enjoying a good World Cup in terms of output for Portugal, having registered two goals and two assists in two matches so far in Qatar.

In April, he penned a contract extension until June 2026, and revealed he was content at the English outfit, but it remains to be seen if his feelings have changed.

"From the moment that I joined Manchester United, I have had a special relationship with the club and our amazing fans. I grew up watching this team, dreaming of getting the chance to play here one day," he told Manutd.com at the time.

"That dream is now a reality and an honour. Even after two years, it still feels amazing to step out at Old Trafford, to hear the fans sing my song and to score in front of the Stretford End. It is a true privilege to wear this shirt and to fight for our incredible club.

"There is so much more that I want to achieve here, and I know that is the same for the rest of the squad and staff. More than anything, we want to give the fans the success that they deserve. We have shared some great moments over the last years, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team."
