Real 'target' shock Militao replacement

Spanish giants Real Madrid have now reportedly targeted a shock replacement for the injured Eder Militao.

Los Blancos are said to be eyeing up a move for Everton's 21-year-old centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as the LALIGA side struggle with injuries to key defenders such as Militao and David Alaba.

The Brazilian defender was forced to watch his team from the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in August last year. Alaba, meanwhile, ruptured the ACL in his left knee in December.

It has also been reported that Militao is expected to make a return to action in March, while Alaba has been ruled out for the entire campaign.

Consequently, Real are said to be looking for someone who can partner with Antonio Rudiger and fill the void left in the heart of defence and have turned their attention to Branthwaite with the intention of signing him in the next transfer window, according to the Daily Mail

The 21-year-old has become a crucial member of Sean Dyche's Everton side, making 17 Premier League appearances and is believed to have captured the attention of not only Los Meringues, but Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as well.

Current Real boss Carlo Ancelotti previously worked with the English defender during his tenure at the Toffees. Branthwaite made his first team debut for the club under the Italian tactician.

He is also believed to still be in contact with the manager's assistant and son Davide, who reportedly sends him messages of encouragement.
