Vinicius steals the show for Real in six-goal thriller

Real Madrid 5-2 Borussia Dortmund

Vinicius Junior bagged a hat-trick and steered Real Madrid to a come-from-behind 5-2 triumph over Borussia Dortmund in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Donyell Malen hit the opener and stunned the Bernabeu crowd on the half-hour mark after racing onto a through pass to find the bottom-corner.

Malen caused more danger minutes after opening proceedings and beat Ferland Mendy to deliver a cutback for Jamie-Bynoe Gittens to slot into an empty net.

Amtonio Rudiger spear-headed the host to a comeback earlier in the second half after rising on the end of Mbappe's clever cross to beat Gregor Kobel.

In the space of two minutes, the comeback was completed when Vinicius latched onto a loose ball from Mbappe who had gone down from a challenge and dispatched comfortably beyond Kobel.

Real took control with seven minutes to go when Lucas Vazquez combined with Mbappe and finished from inside the box.

Vinicius added a second goal a little later after cutting inside following Bellingham's through pass to find the bottom-corner and went on to a hat-trick in added time with a stomping finish from in the area.

Arsenal 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Arsenal remained unbeaten in the league phase of the tournament and recorded a 1-0 win over Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mikel Merino and Raheem Sterling dropped to the bench from the Gunners' loss to Bournemouth, with Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka still missing.

Brazilian international Gabriel Martinelli aided the Gunners to taking the lead ahead of the half-hour mark after his goal-bound shot bounced off Dmytro Riznyk who unfortunately found his own net.

With the match relatively tightly-contested, the host could've made it three late in the second half through a spot-kick but Leandro Trossard wasn't able to pounce after a foul in the box.

AC Milan 3-1 Club Brugge

AC Milan registered their first win of the tournament with a dominant 3-1 victory over a ten-men Club Brugge out at the San Siro.

Former Chelsea playmaker Christian Pulisic broke the deadlock in the middle of the first half through a direct effort from a corner-kick giving Simon Mignolet no chance.

The Belgian giants were further cut down to size before the break as Raphael Onyedika received his marching orders for clipping down Tijani Reijnders.

Youngster Kyrianni Sabbe put his name in the San Siro lights and grabbed the equaliser just after halftime courtesy of a well-struck finish into the bottom-corner.

Reijnders, though, inflicted more havoc on the visiting outfit and restored matters as the Dutchman retrieved Noah Okafor's cutback to find the net with ease.

The Dutch international wasn't done but bagged a brace in the final 20 minutes after finishing off a perfectly placed layoff from another substitute Samuel Chukwueze.

Juventus 0-1 Stuttgart

Juventus' perfect start in the tournament came to an end after a 1-0 loss at the hands of Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart in Turin.

No goals came in the first half before the German outfit turned five minutes thereafter and looked to have gone ahead through a swerving finish from Deniz Undav only to have it disallowed following a hand-ball.

Juve were down to ten players with under five minutes to go after Danilo walked the plank for bringing down Rouault and conceded a penalty, but Enzo Millot was denied by Perin.

The Bundesliga boys didn't give up and got their just rewards in time added on when substitute El Bilal Toure getting into the area to apply a deft finish that gave Perin no chance.

Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna

Aston Villa's return to the continent's premier club tournament continued in perfect style after beating Bologna 2-0 to make it three wins from three matches.

Villa welcomed back the veteran forward John McGinn who just returned from a hamstring concern and saw Ollie Watkins sacrificed in his place.

The tournament debutants held their own for a large spell but were undone ten minutes in the second half when the self-same McGinn applied a probing finish that sailed in the net.

Colombian Jhon Duran, who got the winner against Bayern Munich last time out, came good again after pulling across a challenge to find the bottom-corner from inside the six-yard area.
