Christian Vieri: Jose Mourinho wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo's future at Juventus has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, with rumours suggesting that the 36-year-old could be tempted to return to either Manchester United or Real Madrid rather than see out the remaining year on his contract in Turin.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting Lisbon, but could have a surprise reunion with former Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho, who was recently appointed as AS Roma's manager.

That is according to former Juve and Italy striker Vieri, who claimed that the Portuguese tactician would be interested in bringing his countryman to Rome during a recent appearance on his television show.

However, Vieri's claims were disputed by fellow former Italy international Antonio Cassano – who was also a guest on the show – who suggested that Mourinho's past relationship with Ronaldo would prevent any move from happening.

"Ronaldo to Roma? That's nonsense," Cassano said. "Mourinho didn't get on well with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. How can you think he's going to go to Roma?

"I don't know if it's because they have the same agent, Jorge Mendes, or a Portuguese sporting director, but how can you think Cristiano's going to Roma?"
