Inter Milan successfully retained the Coppa Italia crown with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Wednesday evening.
Cameroon international Andre Onana was a surprise exclusion as Inter started Samir Handanovic in goal while defender Milan Skriniar was back on the bench.
Inter were stunned three minutes into the clash when Nicolas Gonzalez picked up a cross at the back-post from Jonathan Ikone and side-footed in to put the Viola ahead.
The Nerazzurri did look for a quick response four minutes thereafter where a delivery from Denzel Dumfries coincided with Edin Dzeko, but the veteran steered wide.
Fiorentina's advantage lasted before the half-hour mark as the holders levelled when Lautaro Martinez took one touch off Marcelo Brozovic's pass and arrowed in for his 100th goal for the club.
Martinez doubled his and the team's tally over seven minutes before halftime after he pounced on a ball in the box from Nicolo Barella and volleyed in the roof of the net.
No team made substitutions into the second half following the conclusion of the opening period, with the Viola completely on the back-foot.
Fiorentina did have a chance to go level from a free-kick 30-yards outside the six-yard area by former Inter man Cristiano Biraghi, but he went wide of the target..
The Nerazzurri made on a double substitution a little over ten minutes in the second half where Stefan De Vrij replaced Alessandro Bastoni before Romelu Lukaku came on for Dzeko.
Lukaku looked to make his presence felt shortly after entering when he held off two challenges to get a shot in outside the box, but he failed to find the back of the net.
Both teams had late moments where Barella angled in a shot from the edge of the box before Handanovic showed up at the other end to thwart a telling effort from Luka Jovic.
The Nerazzurri didn't experience more late drama ahead of the final whistle but maintained their lead to bag the win and cup for a second year running.
