Cristiano Ronaldo Claims Serie A MVP Award

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Serie A's Most Valuable Player for the 2018/2019 season, while Senegal's Kalidou Koulibaly was named Best defender.

The awards were announced by the league on Saturday evening, with the Portuguese forward claiming the big prize, which he wil receive before Sunday's game with Atalanta.

The league revealed the performances in Serie A, Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup were taken in to consideration.

The award were based on statistics provided by Opta Sports and Netco Sports, according to the league's official website.

Koulibaly received recognition for the best defender in the Italian top flight. He is the only African to receive an award this season.

Sampdoria's Fabio Quagliarella received the award for best forward after his 26 goals in the top flight this season.

Best goalkeeper - Samir Handanovic (Inte Milan)

Best defender - Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

Best midfielder - Sergey Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio)

Best forward - Fabio Quagliarella (Sampdoria)

Best young player - Nicolo Zaniolo (AS Roma)
