Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti provides James Rodriguez transfer update

With Serie A outfit Napoli believed to be keen to sign Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, manager Carlo Ancelotti has provided an update on his club's pursuit of the former Bayern Munich loanee.

The Colombia international spent the past two seasons on loan at Bundesliga side Bayern, but has since returned to Madrid after the Bavarian giants opted against making his stay in Munich a permanent one.

Rodriguez, 28, has been heavily linked with a reunion with former Real boss Ancelotti at Napoli, and the former Paris Saint-Germain boss has now spoken about potentially signing the playmaker.

"There is neither optimism nor pessimism, we'll see what happens," Ancelotti said, as per Marca.

"He's a player that interests us. Real Madrid want to sell him and we want (to buy) him.

"Everything is open."

The Serie A outfit face some stiff competition for the midfielder's signature, with LaLiga club Atletico Madrid reportedly also vying for his services.

While his future still remains unclear at this point, it is believed that Rodriguez has returned to pre-season training with Zidane and company.
