Italy star Stephan El Shaarawy beats up thief?

An Italy star is reportedly under investigation for assaulting a man who allegedly tried to steal his Lamborghini.

According to Italian publication Corriere della Sera, forward Stephan El Shaarawy has been charged with causing "serious injuries" to Jose Carlos Aliaga Sagardia, who had attempted to steal the footballer's vehicle earlier this year.

It is reported that the Roma star was visiting friend and fellow footballer Alessio Cerci on 12 February when he discovered that Sagardia was trying to steal his car. It is understood he subsequently chased down the man and pinned him to the ground.

The would-be thief has claimed he was tripped by the footballer following the botched attempted theft of the Lamborghini, hitting his head on the ground so hard that he lost consciousness.

When he came to, he added, he was being beaten up by a number of people, including the player, although there are reportedly witnesses who say Sagardia actually began punching himself in the face.

He was sentenced to one year and four months on charges of attempted theft in May, and has since filed a complaint against El Shaarawy for the injuries he sustained in the incident.

Prosecutor Carlo Villani has already indicted the Giallorossi player, who was not selected for the Italy squad that is taking part at the 2020 UEFA European Championship, and the investigation is ongoing.
